PORCUPINE PAN is a frying pan whose handle is covered in wire spines that respond to being exposed to high temperatures. Under normal conditions the spines lie flat, however, if the handle becomes too hot to touch with bare hands, the spines straighten, making the handle impossible to grasp. Once the handle has cooled, the wires slowly relax into their flattened position. The Porcupine Pan enriches the experience of cooking by transforming an ordinary pan handle into a dynamic experience. This responsiveness allows users to become more aware of their relationship to heat and safety.
